Readings and authors

These people (among others) have shaped a way of looking at human beings and colour the sensitivity behind my work as a therapist.

Carl RogersFounder of person-centred therapy.

He taught me that the quality of our presence can be deeply transformative: welcoming without imposing, and trusting each person's capacity to find their own direction.

Where to start: On Becoming a Person
Carl JungFather of analytical psychology.

He opened me up to the richness of our inner world and to the possibility that what we do not know about ourselves holds essential keys to understanding who we are and who we can become.

Where to start: Man and His Symbols
Eckhart TolleAuthor and spiritual teacher.

He invited me to discover the importance of the present moment and to step back from the thoughts we so often mistake for who we are. A way of inhabiting experience with greater clarity.

Where to start: The Power of Now (link to the Spanish edition)
Alan WattsBridges between Eastern philosophy and the West.

He helped me question certainties and see our relationship with ourselves, with others and with life through new eyes. His voice opens spaces of freedom where our ideas seem to lock us in.

Where to start: The Way of Zen
OshoCreator of the active meditations.

He brought me closer to meditation as a practice for observing what happens to us without becoming completely caught up in it. I am interested in his emphasis on awareness, on disidentifying from the ego and on personal exploration, while keeping a critical eye on his ideas.

Where to start: Meditation: The First and Last Freedom
Gabriel RolónArgentine psychoanalyst and writer.

He shows me the complexity of human relationships and the weight of our desires, and how to “humanise” psychology through the uniqueness of each story that seeks to give meaning to suffering.

Where to start: Historias de diván (in Spanish)
Jorge Luis BorgesArgentine writer.

Reading him, I understood that identity, time and reality are far more mysterious territories than we think, and I learned to hold different “perspectives” on the same story. A universal man. His work nourished my curiosity, my imagination and humility before what we cannot fully grasp.

Where to start: Ficciones (link to the Spanish edition)
Alejandro DolinaArgentine writer and radio host.

He reminds me that humour, vulnerability, the exercise of thinking and imagination are also ways of knowing. In his chronicles I find a very personal way of looking at our contradictions, our longings and the beauty of everyday life.

Where to start: Crónicas del Ángel Gris (in Spanish)
Lilian BanderasCognitive behavioural therapy, parenting and adolescence.

Her way of supporting people — grounded in CBT practice — and her interest in parenting and adolescence have sharpened my understanding of developmental challenges and of how family bonds are formed, without losing sight of what makes each person unique.

Where to start: Cuando es preciso ser padres (in Spanish)
Muriel SalmonaFrench psychiatrist, specialising in psychotraumatology.

A before and an after. She made me see the pain of victims through the imprint that trauma leaves, make room for what sometimes cannot find words, and recognise the importance of listening to, protecting and not blaming those who have suffered violence. Her work also includes the world of the perpetrator.

Where to start: Le livre noir des violences sexuelles (in French)
